Morpei Joins the Desert Hearts Crew With a Grooving Display of “Desert Worship”
The beloved Desert Hearts family has done an incredible job of showing the love the past five years, and it’s been shown right back to them. Beginning as an intimate 2012 party in the Mojave Desert, their events are now spreading all over the country. Built around classic rave ideals—plus an unmistakable dusty, adventurous spirit—they’re also running a record label showcasing their own brand of house and techno.
We’re featuring a cut from their upcoming two-track Desert Faith release from Bolivian producer Morpei as our Track of the Day. “Desert Worship” on the flip features precisely the kind of positive vibes you’d expect to emanate from a DH event. It’s a rolling tech house groover with percussive embellishments and a dash of acid; then there’s a particularly soulful vocal, as well as a late-game appearance from some vintage organ synths to really emphasize those positive party vibes.
“This EP from Morpei has been killing it for me for months,” says Desert Hearts cofounder Mikey Lion. “The A-side [‘Faith in Groove’] has one of my favorite grooves that we’ve released on the label, and the B-side is like this weird acid groove that works its way through a dancefloor. I’m super excited to welcome Morpei to the label.”
Morpei himself is well pleased to be joining the family. “Coming from a small country like Bolivia, where artists have very limited opportunities, releasing music with Desert Hearts only passed through my mind like a dream,” he says. “After studying their sound, and lots of hard work on my craft, I finally felt I had something that the label would like, and to my surprise, they wanted to sign the EP. I then knew that moving to California was my destiny. Now I’m living in L.A., surrounded by Desert Hearts family, and it’s still a surreal feeling.”
Available March 22 via Desert Hearts Records.
