Prolix
Origin: United Kingdom
Chris McCarthy AKA Prolix is a London-based drum and bass producer, DJ and label boss of Trendkill Records, renowned in the scene for his floor filling, high energy sets and an intense focus on the engineering behind the music. During a prolific career spanning more than a decade, Prolix has released on virtually every major D&B label and is the producer that other DJs turn to for tunes that tear up the dance floor.
His sound is rooted in the heavy rock and dance vibe of the 90s and honed by working at the epicentre of a subculture and music community that has continued to produce tech D&B in the face of an ever evolving scene.
To really get a sense of who Prolix is, you have to look at the label he set up in 2011 in order to do things his way. Trendkill flies under the radar but has built a reputation within the scene for bringing together an eclectic mix of fresh, new talent and established heavyweights, in its pursuit of sonic excellence. As an artist, he is driven by a relentless desire to push creative boundaries as well as to produce big, heavy tunes that ravers the world over love. A keen collaborator, one of the motivations for setting up Trendkill Records was to work freely with artists who share his passion for production.
Early in his career, a remix of Chase & Status’ ‘Barbarians’ on Renegade Hardware, caught the attention of DJ Hype. Hype went on to establish the Ganja Tek label solely to release Prolix’s unique brand of drum & bass. As well as his solo output, Prolix has worked with the likes of Gridlok on the visionary, crowd-funded ‘Project Trendkill’ album (the first of its kind), Noisia, collaborating on the iconic ‘Asteroids’, and others such as Black Sun Empire, DC Breaks, and Audio for a series of remixes and collaborations.
Prolix’s tunes regularly appear at the top of the Beatport charts, most recently, “The Message”, featuring Black Sun Empire (#1 on Beatport Drum & Bass). They also garner massive support by mainstream radio and underground DJs alike, including everyone from Andy C to Rene Le Vice. While he is currently releasing with the esteemed Blackout, Prolix’s unique and diverse productions have also been released on Shogun, RAM, VISION, Viper, Playaz & Ganja Tek, Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, and OWSLA to name a few.
In addition to an immaculate back catalogue, Prolix has toured every corner of the globe, playing at the world’s most prestigious festivals (EDC Las Vegas, Let It Roll, Bassrush) and sharing the stage with some of the most iconic names in drum & bass in places such as America, Australia and New Zealand. His adrenaline-fuelled, hair-raising sets draw huge crowds time and time again, and has built this producer and his record label Trendkill Records, an army of fiercely loyal fans.
