Cera Alba “Blacklight” (SEFF Remix)

After tallying up quality cuts on imprints like Hot Creations, VIVa and Moon Harbour, Cera Alba is set to drop off a thumpin’ two-tracker on Lost Records next week. The Newcastle native, now operating out of London, has been chiseling away at a sound built off his refined house rhetoric, and Cera’s latest effort falls in the same shade of shakers he’s been delivering nonstop.

Showing up on the release with remix support, SEFF strokes a club-ready remix of the lead cut, “Blacklight.” Still buzzing from his last EP on Hot Creations, the UK head hits the heater with hues of warehouse hospitality. Charging out with pumping percs that storm against caroming, iridescent keys and bobbing basslines, this tune shows it’s SEFF’s year to outshine the rest of the scene.

Do you think advances in computer technology and gear have affected your creativity?
In a way, yes! But I’m mainly going backward to more analog gear these days. The more analog a track sounds to me, the better—plus it’s much more fun to work with and can help spark ideas you wouldn’t normally think of, which I love.

Describe the best setting/activity to hear this track.
I certainly think the more small, dark and dingy basement-type clubs suit this remix very well.

How does this production reflect your personality/ethos?
Random, no rules, serious, but also fun at the same time!

Have you played this one out in any of your sets? If so, what was the response?
Yes, I’ve played it out at a few gigs now, and it always goes down really well—especially toward the end of the night, when things tend to get a bit darker.

What’s your favorite sound/synth/effect/etc. used here?
Most definitely the bass sound. I used the Moog Subphatty for this, as I do with many of my other tracks/remixes wherever I see fit! It definitely came in handy when approaching this remix for that lush, warm Moog sound, which just always seems to sit right in the mix.
