The shelf life of tracks nowadays doesn’t even come close when compared to some of the classic cuts of yesteryear. Take Moonbootica’s “June,” for instance: It’s been a decade since the German duo first dished out the electro-tinged cut, and they’ve been rinsing it out like their favorite T-shirt ever since, yet the colors never seem to fade. Next week, the gents are slated to re-moonboot the tune—not out of necessity, but as a way to wink at their timeless tune.

Apart from their own upbeat update, they’ve tapped a solid list of remixers to weigh in on the package, with Stil vor Talent’s Teenage Mutants bringing his handy house flair to the affair. He patches things up like a pro, allowing the melodies to retain their shine, while mounting them atop a full-bodied percussive groove constructed for contemporary crowds.

Available June 13 via Moonbootique Records.

If you were to describe this track as a scent, a signature fragrance as it were, what would it be called? If it were to have a tagline, what would it be?
Moonbootica: The track is called “June,” so why not call the fragrance Sunny Meadows. You know, like how early summer smells: fresh, green, promising and euphoric. It’s like this feeling when you ride your bike in the night, and you realize that the wind isn’t cold anymore, and the way it touches you makes you smile. I don’t want to get corny here, but it is what it is…

Was there one particular moment in the recording or mixing process of this track that made you feel as though you were creating something pretty damn special?
Absolutely. When we chopped the sample and played with it, we totally knew that this is special—one of these rare moments in the studio when you are 100 percent certain. No need for further discussion. We did not speak one word and finished the track within a day.

How do you measure the success of a track?
Most people would probably measure success in sales, but I think “June” is a perfect example of how successful a track can be in very different way. The original song is 11 years old, and it still holds the comparison to all other remixes from 2015. We played this track in every single set in all these years, and the enthusiasm never dropped—not for us playing it, nor for the crowds. That’s pretty successful, I think!

Who is the ideal person to remix this track?
Honestly, I think we really picked the best ones to remix this track. Teenage Mutants told us once how he loved it when he started clubbing years ago. We love his productions, so it was clear to us that he had to do a remix. Ante Perry is a longtime friend, much like “June” is, and he actually said he would never speak to us again if he could not contribute a remix. So, of course we let him, and he delivered an excellent mix. Tagteam Terror are also friends who always deliver excellent remixes.

In the end, we remixed ourselves, too. For the first time, we laid hands on one of our own songs. Strange as it was, it had to be done. Like I said before, we really love this song, but we were also getting a bit tired of it. Normally, you just let go, because there are a lot more songs you can play, right? But this time, we chose to refresh the whole thing. We are absolutely satisfied with the outcome and hope you are, too!

Choose one feeling that sums up this release, and describe it to us.
You know we are talking about a very deep relationship here. This track has accompanied us for so many years now; it’s like a good old friend. We played “June” in something like 1,000 shows—most of them really great—and we thought it would be time now to breathe some fresh air into this good ol’ fellow!

So, now we have all these great remixes that carry on the vibe of the original but are also brand-new and unconsumed, so we can enjoy listening to it/them again. It’s like Christmas in June. Excellent!
