After slinging out seven full-lengths, you would think Crazy P would find itself stuck in stagnant waters. But time has been kind to the Nottingham-based band—composed of frontwoman Danielle Moore, Jim Baron and Chris Todd—who continue to push their far-from-weathered sound into the fevered faces of the disco-house faithful.

On the heels of their hot-to-trot Walk Dance Talk Sing LP, more appendage-shaking is set to ensue through the release of a full-flavored remix package. Band member Chris Todd, who is cited as Hot Toddy on his solo endeavors, repurposes the gentle, guitar-led jam “Something More” with his slow-burning dub. He elects stylishly sporadic textures that simmer behind a sashaying rhythmic framework. It will have heads reaching for the roof.

Available via Walk Don’t Walk/!K7.

Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
This remix of “Something More” was the second one I did. The first one I did made use of the full vocal, and has a slight pop-disco feel. So, I was keen to explore a different angle that made use of the more sparse rhythmic elements. I guess I was going for more of a tracky, dub feel with this one, putting the song in a totally different place.

What’s your favorite sound/synth/effect/etc. used here?
I guess the swelling synth sound that comes in about halfway through. It’s a bit of a game-changer and really moves the track on and gives it momentum and energy (well, I think it does!). Before this momentum, the track is really sparse and is mainly made up of the vocal elements and percussion, so this added a bit of harmony and shifts the gear a bit.

Have you played this one out in any of your sets? If so, what was the response?
Yea, a couple of times. Because of its tempo, I’ve played it near the start of my sets. It seems to work really well—especially the percussive elements, which get people moving—because it’s quite tracky and sparse, it can really set up the next track I’m gonna play nicely.

Describe the best setting/activity to hear this track.
Play it on your iPod, earphones in, whilst travelling on the tube/subway. As it’s a vocal dub, there’s not much of a narrative, so fill it in with all the commuters and give them all little back-stories, especially during rush hour. Lots of fun!

If this song were a color, what color would it be?
Blue… or maybe green, or perhaps red. No wait, it’s definitely blue with a hint of green! Oh fuck it, it’s red.
