Simion “The Groove” (Club Mix)

At the rate Berlin continues to pump out world-class producers, you’d think they’re culturing specimens in a secret techno laboratory. One member of this new crop of groove specialists is Simion, who has made a significant splash despite keeping a low profile. Coming off mega tunes on imprints Suara and OFF, the German sensation has opted to add to the growing bank of releases on his own Hedonism Music imprint for his most recent offering. “The Groove” has all the workings of a proper tech house weapon, wielding punchy drum programming and sizzling intricacies that’ll knock club-goers flat on their backs.

Did you discuss or exchange ideas with other producers while creating this track?
Actually, yes. I was discussing some details with my Berlin mates Florian Kruse and Chi Thanh. They gave me a lot of useful input on my different versions.

Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
First I had a sketch, and it went down pretty well. After listening to it a few weeks later, I changed it completely into the mix which is going to be released December 11. After a few weeks, I worked on another version—which, again, I left for a couple of days. And then finally, after I road-tested the material, I realized the mix from last week is the one.

Was there one particular moment in the recording or mixing process of this track that made you feel as though you were creating something pretty damn special?
I felt this moment when I played it out and got amazing feedback from the crowds.

Who is the ideal person to remix this track?
In this case, definitely Florian Kruse and Kevin Knapp. They made two completely different but unique pieces of great music.

What’s the takeaway here? Is there a message or vibe you hope to get across to listeners?
The message is very simple: G, meaning “groove.” G, meaning “get with it.” Have fun, and go with the flow.
