Shadow Child Delivers a Rough ‘n Ready Rerub of “Moon”
UK house veteran extraordinaire Shadow Child (also known to the dance world under his other famous alias, Dave Spoon) heads up the Food Music label, and next on their slate is the debut EP from newcomers Kitchen Disco. To give you a taste before the Moon EP lands on Friday, we’ve got our hands on Shadow Child’s own remix of the title track. It takes the original’s accessible grooves and then hoses them down, moving things in a slightly tougher direction.
The central groove of “Moon” is pure, pounding house music with a standout jazz sample, plus some softer melodic touches in the breaks. The Shadow Child remix, on the other hand, sees this stripped back a little for a slightly grittier and techier take.
“Johnny Valentine and I formed Kitchen Disco, and after initial success DJing together, we joined forces with Groovefinder in the studio, and ‘Moon’ was born,” says Andy Moore, the other half of the fledgling duo. “Shadow Child then picked it up, together with ‘On Off,’ for his label, Food Music. After playing it on Rinse FM, he remixed it, too. Now we just have to come up with a follow-up!”
