Kandi Kids of Colorado
The PLUR spirit is alive and thriving in Colorado. From the funny shit we overheard to the dedicated Colorado fanatics, Global Dance Festival fans really showed us how the Rocky Mountain State parties. And the kandi we saw at GDF was bananas! The state is nicknamed Colorful Colorado, and these cool kandi kids showed us why it deserves that moniker.

Zachary was spirited and full of fun with his magical headdress. For each night of Global Dance Festival, Zachary wore a different wardrobe. He is a Colorado native and a diehard Denver music devotee. “The bass is so heavy,” he says proudly about his state’s music scene.

Josh was going bananas when we caught up with him at GDF. He loves to RAGE in his yellow Chiquita costume. As he bounced into the crowd, Josh ecstatically yelled, “Anything for Dada Life!”

These three colorful ladies all met each other for the first time at GDF; their passion for kandi and accessories brought them together. For Julia, making and collecting kandi helps restore her faith in humanity. “Collecting kandi is a way to make new lifelong friends.”

Karen is keeping her youth alive with her free spirit and zestful costume. She came to GDF with two friends and her 19-year-old son. She is passionate about dancing, which is what brings her back to GDF year after year. Karen likes to dress up, noting, “People are more friendly when you are dressed up. You get to meet more people, and it makes the whole experience more enjoyable.”

This is Kendall’s first-ever music festival, and she crafted her headband the day before to rock it with pride at GDF. Kendall made the trek all the way from Boise, ID, for her freshman experience. To say the least, Kendall exclaimed she is hooked on the EDM life.

Anthony is no stranger to events and music festivals like GDF. His first rave had a Street Fighter theme in the middle of the desert. Along with his friends, Anthony road-tripped all the way from St. Louis to catch Brillz and Showtek at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Angel gave off some colorful energy with her rainbow spirit hood and cluster of beads. She was extra jazzed about her Insomniac beads she scored at the Bud Light Platinum booth at EDC Las Vegas. She couldn’t wait to plunge into the crowd for Showtek’s set.

Skylar and his pink-haired princess Alysse have been collecting and making beads for four years. Alysse made Skylar a custom bead set that says “Adventurer Skylar.” This being the couple’s first time at Red Rocks, they are living up to the mantra spelled out by the beads, and are off on the GDF adventure.

Jami was ecstatic about the view from the top of Red Rocks. This was Jami’s first GDF, and she didn’t hold back with her orange tutu and rainbow scarf. “Bright colors make me happy,” Jamie told us, with a big smile on her face.

Kylee’s favorite piece of kandi is her “Rave Slave” bracelet, and that is exactly what she claims to be: a bondswoman to the bass.
