Booka Shade Dials in Some Ghostly Bass on “Channel K”
Earlier this year, underground yet world-renowned German meta house duo Booka Shade dropped their Cut the Strings LP on their own imprint, Blaufield. Today, they add to the label’s prestigious discography with Dissonanza, a three-track EP with typically Booka Shade–minded aspirations.
According to them, and evident by the EP’s title—as well as the end results—the intent was to produce “an EP based on halftone riffs and disharmonic pad layers.” Among the three cuts working that out is “Channel K,” a gurgling, rattling low-end monster. After warming you up with a percolating rhythm, the track breaks into a wigged-out second half. At a distance, its workhorse hi-hats, intricate percussion, and laser-sharp, baroque strings grab most of our attention. Up close, though, the bass booms so deeply, it almost haunts the track rather than inhabiting it.
We’re not sure what the frequency is for “Channel K,” but we seriously advise tuning in.
Available August 10 via Blaufield.
