Alex Kenji Raises the Vibe With Tribal-Laced Groove “Swakoo”
Just in time for next week’s ADE, the industry’s largest networking and marathon late-night conference, Toolroom unleashes AMSTDM 2018, its monster compilation featuring 60 tracks by a who’s-who of house music—including Dusky, Will Saul, Sterling Void, Nic Fanciulli, Kerri Chandler, Shiba San, Weiss, Tocadisco, Pig & Dan, Maceo Plex, Junior Sanchez, and Mark Knight, to name just a few. Among the many gems is “Swakoo” by Alex Kenji, the Italian groove expert who has had hands all over countless chart-topping records for more than a decade.
On his contribution, the percussion does most of the lifting, and it raises the vibes high. Using a simple vocal loop wet with echo, the track seems to bang on every surface in sight to achieve an almost tribal effect that should have dancefloors in a swanky trance. If you can’t make it to ADE, turn this up in your living room, close your eyes, and shake what your mamma gave you. It won’t transport you there, but it will make being wherever you are a hell of a lot funkier.
Available October 12 via Toolroom Records.
