10 People You Meet at EDC

Headliners go all out with festive costumes and outfits for EDC, but we do see many running themes. Here are some of our favorites.

1. The Flower Child

Flower crowns and bras adorned with daisies are a fan favorite at EDC. Channeling festivalgoers of the past, the hippie generation has been revived for the modern music lover seeking good vibes and spreading the love.

2. The Superhero

With more than 400,000 Headliners raging in the desert over the three days of EDC Las Vegas, you may just need someone to swoop in and save the day. That’s where Superman, Batman and Captain America come in and protect ravers from the evil of sunrise and bad vibes. Bonus points if you can tolerate the fake muscle suits in the heat.

3. The Sadie Hawkins Couple

Remember in high school when the roles were reversed, and the girls would ask the boys to the dance and pick out matching outfits? Coordinating looks with a significant other or best friend only adds to the fun. Rocking a pair of banana suits, representing your home country, or getting creative with multicolored ribbon to emulate Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy logo, team costumes are always good for a smile.

4. The Nearly Nude

Some people have the balls to strip down and run free. We know, because we can almost see said balls in those super-short shorts. Pasties are also a favorite for ladies looking to let ‘em fly free. For those wanting to be free of the burden of clothes but aren’t quite as bold, body paint can be the best outfit yet, and you don’t feel quite as exposed.

5. The Old-School Raver

You’ll see them from a mile away by the circumference of their Kikwear pants. Or UFOs. Or JNCOs. Regardless of the brand, those phat pants let you know this raver means serious and lifelong dedication to the culture.

6. The Kandi Master

Hats off to you, guy with the 3D cuff so massive he can’t put his arm down by his side. There’s so much respect and admiration for the DIY and patience in crafting your extravagant rave gear. Extra kudos, because those beads can get heavy, and you have the strength to rock an entire Jo-Ann’s craft store on your arms.

7. Your Parents and Grandparents

A family that raves together stays together. Overheard at EDC Vegas was a young lady saying, “C’mon, grandma”—not a nickname, but someone’s actual grandmother, who came to enjoy EDC as well. Numerous ravers love the lifestyle so much, they bring along their parents to share the joy, and longtime ravers even bring their children when they’re 18 as a rite of passage.

8. The Bro

He’s got a body for days and the perfect tan. His tank top will be off the second he gets through the gates to give ladies some abs you have to resist touching. His dance moves, however, are more jumping-bean style, and his biceps are perfectly conditioned for fist-pumping all night at kineticFIELD. We appreciate your dedication to the gym.

9. The Party Animal

Getting in touch with your inner primate or prairie predator lets you channel your spirit animal. Plus, it also gives you a great excuse to dance like a monkey without sideways glances. Just tell people you’re in character, as long as you don’t try to climb the scaffolding.

10. The Superfan

The ultimate badge of allegiance to your sworn DJ hero is inking their logo on your flesh forever. And ever, and ever. Just remember: Sometimes they change their logo or name, or wind up breaking your heart by admitting to using a ghost producer.
