Awesome People We Met at Escape: Psycho Circus 2018

When it comes to Headliners going all out on their outfits, Escape: Psycho Circus never fails to deliver the ultimate highlight reel. From full Dia de los Muertos face painting and bejeweled bodies, to DIY Pokémon characters, Headliners got super creative this year. We posted up in the Psycho Circus and wrangled in a few extra special ravers to find out what their outfits say about their personalities, what they’re most afraid of, and how they “escape.”

How do you Escape?
Moses: Music, definitely. I feel like when you’re listening to music and when you’re going through stressful moments, music is the greatest distraction.
Waching: I think through art in general. I draw and I create lots of things. Making these costumes was a way from running away from my problems. Also music; I feel like it all goes together.

What is your biggest fear?
Moses: Mayonnaise, for sure. It scares me. Everything about it freaks me out. I had a friend who put it in my mouth as a joke and I threw up. It’s a big fear of mine.
Waching: I think for me it’s going to be time because even though I’m young and I’ve had a pretty beautiful and vibrant life, most of the things that I lost was because of time.

What does your outfit say about you?
Waching: I think it reflects my personality very well. I like to shine at least once a year.
Moses: I think my outfit kind of says I’m shining.

Justin: Stretching and weight training.

Stephanie: I would say mine is completely opposite of how I usually portray myself; mystical, grey hair and tall.
Justin: I’m dark, mysterious and sexy.

How do you Escape?
I feel like at some point, you have to face reality, so I don’t like escaping. I would rather just face it and move forward with it, but raves and music help me get my mind off of most things.

Spiders. It’s very random but I hate, hate spiders.

I feel like a perfectionist, and I always like to go all-out at raves—it’s a little about the patience and putting in the work to do it.

Ashley: It used to be Halloween but after going to Escape I’m like, “It’s not that bad!”
Quan: Failure—but that just motivates me to come back from failure.

Ashley: We wanted to dress up together so I dressed as Goldeen from Pokémon and Quan dressed up as Magikarp. We’re both derpy fish.
Quan: No matter how derpy I am, I can still conquer the day and splash my way through life!
