Ben Pearce Makes Summer Seem Eternal With These 5 Songs
When I was half the years wiser, I used to say life would be a heck of a lot simpler if summer were endless (just imagine what that would mean for festival season). I’ve come to grips with the fact that summer is nowhere near never-ending, but that doesn’t mean the sparkle in my eye for it has dimmed in the slightest. I may have switched up the ways I choose to unwind in my older age, but I still feel like a kid in a kandi store whenever the summer tide sensations are going strong.
UK producer Ben Pearce can relate. “Summer never really changes; it’s eternal,” he proclaims. “As a kid, you’re looking forward to being off from school, playing in the garden and eating ice cream. It just gets replaced when you get older: hanging out with your friends in the sun, drinks, music and, of course, the occasional ice cream, too (mine’s a Zap).”
As long as I have stellar tunes like Ben Pearce’s puncture-a-hole-in-the-floor collab with Shadow Child, “Nothing Ever Hurts,” within arm’s reach, I’m going to keep pretending the party is never going to end. The Purp & Soul label boss has more than a few songs in his catalog that I could sip on any time of the day, but right now we’re going to talk about five endless summer songs he’d like to share with you. Have at ‘em.
Leon Vynehall “Butterflies”
This one just screams “festivals in the sun” for me. The progression is perfect.
Redbone “Come and Get Your Love”
One for the chilled BBQ-with-friends day, feet up in the sun.
Cunninlynguists “Stars Shine Brightest”
This is just sunshine in every way—gorgeous melody and texture.
Toro Y Moi “Say That”
Such an intriguing artist. I love every project of Chaz Bundick. The synth layers in this track are silly good.
New Found Glory “Hit or Miss”
I can’t help but hear any song by NFG without thinking of drinking outside with good friends. It soundtracked a lot of my childhood and continues to do so now.
