Between 2 DJs: Bruno Furlan x Sage Armstrong
Upcoming Event
It’s been no secret that we’ve been anxiously awaiting an official b2b set from the homies Bruno Furlan and Sage Armstrong ever since they dropped their wobbly collab “GOTDAMN” on our IN / ROTATION imprint this past May. It’s five minutes of booty-shakin’, ass-slappin’ bass goodness that’ll whip you into a dancefloor daze as soon as those 808s smack you in the face.
Luckily for us, the house music gods have answered our prayers: Furlan and Armstrong will unleash their first-ever b2b set together later this month when they ring in the New Year at Countdown 2018, which takes place Monday, December 31, at NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA.
Trust us: It’s a set you won’t want to miss. If “GOTDAMN” is any indication, Furlan and Armstrong share a sense of musical telepathy rarely found on the dancefloor. Chalk that up to their IRL friendship and bro-loving words for one another: “He has this awesome energy, and I think he’s always able to transfer some of it to the audience,” says Furlan of his b2b partner in crime, while Armstrong fires back, “I appreciate Bruno’s talent and humbleness.”
Their unique musical styles complement one another, too. Furlan’s booming house and techno steez is a perfect match for Armstrong’s booty-bouncing bass. It’s the type of combo that’ll have you shaking dat ass straight into 2019—and probably way longer than that.
Ahead of Countdown 2018, Insomniac caught up with Bruno Furlan and Sage Armstrong to learn more about their musical connection, their upcoming debut b2b set, and their plans for the New Year.
What do you appreciate about each other’s stage presence/online persona?
Sage: I appreciate Bruno’s talent and humbleness.
Bruno: Sage is a really good friend. He has this awesome energy, and I think he’s always able to transfer some of it to the audience. When we made a track together, I could understand a little bit of his personality, and it is great; he’s very intense.
Name your favorite track by your b2b partner. What’s a good track of yours that would be a good mix-in?
Bruno: Sage Armstrong & Astronomar’s “Up Down Left Right.” I would mix my new track, “Wake Up,” that will soon be released on Sweat It Out Records.
Sage: My favorite Bruno track is “Get Behind It,” and I think “Ass Out“ would blend into this nicely.
What’s one thing you wish people knew about him?
Bruno: He is completely out of the box—different from everyone I know. This is really good for our friendship.
Sage: People should know how hard he works =) and how nice he is.
If he weren’t a DJ/producer by profession, what do you think he’d be doing for a living instead?
Sage: Rapping.
Bruno: I guess he would be a chef. Not sure why.
What’s one thing you would NOT be surprised to see on his DJ rider?
Sage: A full studio.
Bruno: I wouldn’t be surprised if he asked for pool floats or some random costumes. Also, I think I’ll see pizzas.
What do you think makes him smile the most?
Sage: Making music.
Bruno: Big sound systems!
What’s one song you like that your b2b partner has probably never heard before?
Bruno: TC’s “Rep,” featuring Jakes.
Sage: “Gucci Panties” by Franklyn Watts.
If he needed a new DJ name and you were tasked with giving him one, what would it be?
Sage: Bruno the Beast.
Bruno: Bacon & Cheddar. I guess I’m hungry, because lots of these questions are reminding me of food.
What are you looking forward to most about playing Countdown?
Sage: Hearing good music with friends, and going b2b with Bruno for the first time.
What can fans expect from your b2b set?
Sage: A fun time and a whole lotta bass <3
Bruno: New tracks, new grooves, new Bruno!
What are you working on right now? What’s coming up?
Sage: I’ve been in the studio in between shows, working on a lot of new music, a few collabs, singles, and an album as well.
Bruno: New release on Dirtybird, a really special track on House of Hustle for Christmas, and a big album on my label, Whistle Records! Stay tuned, and see you on December 31.
