Calyx & TeeBee’s Top 5 Tracks of 2015
As we get ready to knock on the door of 2016, we asked some of our favorite DJs to give us their top five tracks of the year. Dive into Calyx & TeeBee’s essential selections below.
It’s perfectly normal to feel winded while trying to keep up with Calyx & TeeBee. Having spent nearly two decades laying everything they have out on the floor, the powerhouse pairing continually find it in themselves to keep things stimulating in the studio. They’ve practically written the book on how to bypass drum & bass subgenres, and the ever-changing currents of the scene could easily be traced back to the experimental ethos of this permanent collaboration. But changing up the game is nothing out of the ordinary for C&TB—not when your commitment to the culture is beyond question.
The year has seen these expert beatsmiths leaving a breadcrumb trail of beats leading to the follow-up 1×1 LP on the mighty RAM Records. But before they add to their bow-all-the-way-down repertoire with next year’s album, they give a holler to the five records that have been blowing up their crates in 2015.
Noisia ft. the Upbeats “Dead Limit”
Monster Reece breakdown and deadly drop. Amazing production, and bangs the living crap out the club. Possibly this year’s biggest reaction all around.
Ivy Lab “Sunday Crunk” (Mefjus Remix)
Mefjus has had an amazing year. This tune destroyed it for months in our sets. Love how Martin managed to keep it funky and savage.
Calyx & TeeBee “Long Gone”
We love making tunes that are not trying to be anything other than a good tune. This is one where it all came together. Great to see the reaction to this in our sets, now that everyone knows it.
Mefjus “Expedition”
Great year for Critical all around. This is our favorite from the Emulation LP. Understated and funky, with a beat to die for.
Calyx & TeeBee “Cloud 9”
The latest single from our forthcoming 1X1 album. This has been a set closer for months, and it’s nice to finally get it out there.
