Here’s What 10 Headliners Look Like When They’re Not at Festivals
We all journey down different paths in our daily lives. Some of us are law clerks, others are bus drivers, registered nurses, web designers and international models, to name a few. When we venture to a festival, however, we remove our costumes and transform into truer versions of ourselves, meeting in a world that allows us to leave all our worries (and boring-ass clothes) behind.
Insomniac celebrates #TransformationTuesday by asking 10 unique Headliners to discuss their lives in and out of uniform.

Why do you love dance music culture?
I love this culture because it makes me feel free. At every event I go to, I’m able to express all of my happiness through dancing, screaming, and sharing positive vibes with the important people that I’m with! The culture doesn’t put limits on how people choose to express themselves, and that’s what I love most.
How does the culture influence your daily life?
The culture influences my daily life by giving me the best memories! When one of my favorite songs comes on, it’ll take me back to one of the happiest times of my life.

Why do you love dance music culture?
It’s empowering! As soon as the beat drops, I feel free. I’ve met most of my dearest friends at raves—people who love me for who I really am. The music keeps me motivated and pushes me to achieve my dreams.
How does the culture influence your daily life?
PLUR is something that I live by everyday, whether I’m at home, working, or in my pageants! The culture has really taught me how to love, and that is genuinely an amazing feeling.

Why do you love dance music culture?
I love dance music culture because it had the most positive effect on me at a time when I needed it most. I had anger problems early on, but after discovering this culture at EDC 2010, I really found my home and let go of all that anger inside.
How does the culture influence your daily life?
It gives me energy and positivity! I’m all about peace, love, unity and respect. It’s how I live my life, and that’s why I always have a smile on my face.

Why do you love dance music culture?
I love to dance, and I love the sounds of this type of music. It makes me feel like I can be free and just be myself. I love to get lost in the music.
How does the culture influence your daily life?
Personally, I’m just a really happy person. I share PLUR with everyone, even with my kids. They absolutely love it.

Why do you love dance music culture?
I love this culture because I can be myself. Being in the military, my personality and sense of uniqueness was stripped away from me. But when you go to an event, everyone is their own person and is loved for who they are. They’re never judged.
How does the culture influence your daily life?
The culture brought me to my husband. Through EDM, I was able to find my soul mate. Whenever I come across people who are part of this lovely scene, it’s like an instant friendship is made. It’s a great feeling knowing that there’s always someone who will take you in and be there for you.

Why do you love dance music culture?
Dance music culture is free and unexplainable, which is why I connect to it so well. I’m an artist—an expressionist—and dance music culture allows me to express myself artistically in ways that are new and fun! It’s magical being part of a culture that’s full of people who don’t see faces, but souls—people that accept each other for who they are.
How does the culture influence your daily life?
Peace, love, unity, respect: It’s something that I carry with me all day, everyday. Not everyone likes EDM, and not everyone will understand what we ravers do, but that doesn’t mean we can’t spread PLUR across the world. Truly understanding what PLUR stands for made a positive impact on my life, and I hope I can share that with everyone I meet.

Why do you love dance music culture?
I’m absolutely in love with this culture because it saved my life! Before my eyes had been opened to the beautiful world I now call home and the wonderful people I now call family, I was truly lost. Because of EDM, I know who I truly am and where I belong!
How does the culture influence your daily life?
I play EDM everyday on my bus for my students and am told daily that I’m the coolest bus driver ever because of it. I’ve learned to live my life by the ideals of PLUR and to spread it to everyone like wildfire. Not one day goes by that I don’t think about all the wonderful people and music that has made me the loving, caring person I am today.

Why do you love dance music culture?
I’m a newcomer to EDM, and now I can’t imagine my life without it! Going to EDC Las Vegas 2014 with my best friend was life-changing. I’m a shy and self-conscious person, but this world makes me feel unconditionally accepted and free.
How does the culture influence your daily life?
I’m in the midst of studying for the bar exam and working full-time for the government, which means I’m stressed out most of the time. When I listen to electronic music, I can escape back to memories of dancing all night with amazing people—especially my best friend.

Why do you love dance music culture?
Simply put, this culture is where I feel most alive. From the second I hear the music and bass, I feel this surge of energy fire through my body, causing me to dance and rage as hard as my body will allow.
How does the culture influence your daily life?
This culture is just as much about the people we interact with as it is about the music. Energy transcends from one person to the next, whether it’s at a rave or in a hospital. The person I am when I’m with my friends in TeamMau5 is the same person I am when I’m with the patients I take care of. Be good to others, and see how far that positive energy will travel.

I love dance music culture because I love how it unifies us all together. You always feel the amazing energy among one another when the music fills the atmosphere

I use this culture in my daily life by living with that energy everyday! Positive energy and good vibes lead to a happier life.
