iQ: Whipped Cream
We capture a mental fingerprint of some of our musical and cultural heroes and preserve it in cyber-amber for the wonderment of future generations. This is the Insomniac Questionnaire—meet Whipped Cream.
What was your favorite toy as a child, and when/why did you stop playing with it?
My Barney toy piano. I played with it till I was getting too old to play with it. I remember one day coming home and it was gone, ‘cause my parents had given it away.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Did you take it?
The best piece of advice I ever received was from my father. Since I was a young a child, he always told my siblings and me, “If it’s got to be, it’s up to me.” That really stuck with me my whole life. No one is accountable for anything in your life—you are. If you want something to happen, you have to take it into your own hands. I think if I weren’t taught this at a young age, life would seem a lot harder to me. One other thing I was given, again from my father, is that the main reason we are here on earth is to help other people. I’m grateful I was taught that, because it continuously brings joy into my life.
What part of your day do you look forward to most?
The morning time—I love waking up and writing music. It is the greatest thing to me. I also really like dusk. I love walking outside in nature at dusk; it brings me deep inspiration.
What’s the best time you’ve ever had without spending money?
Those are endless to count. I think anytime I get to share music with someone or play a show, those are my favourite times of life. I really love curating sets and playing them to people. Another thing I really like that’s free is watching the sunrise or having a laugh or hug with a good person.
What is your most treasured possession?
My family, friends, fans, and soul. But if we’re talking material, it would be my computer.
What is your favorite word?
“Juxtaposition” is my favourite word. Second is “melancholy” and third is “passionate.”
Do you owe an apology to anyone?
I’m an empath. I feel I owe an apology to everyone at some point, haha. But on the real, he’s probably not reading this, but I am sorry for the way I handled things through my own pain.
“I’m a Capricorn; everything scares me. But nothing sets me more unbalanced than being around people I can’t trust.”
When is the last time you were really scared?
I’m a Capricorn; everything scares me. But nothing sets me more unbalanced than being around people I can’t trust. That’s what scares me most, and I always know change is needed.
What is the last thing you googled?
Flight time from L.A. to Fiji.
What’s the last sound you would want to hear before you die?
My parents’ voice; an Active Child song; perhaps James Blake.
Do you have any recurring dreams or nightmares?
I have recently, yes, but only because my heart is broken. I know it will go away soon, because my love is going into my music, and the return on that is endless love and happiness.
How do you measure success?
Success, to me, would be surrounded by people who I trust with every inch of me, all doing what we love, for a better life for ourselves—the ones around us and the world as one, unconditionally out of love. That would also be happiness to me.
If you could have one magical/superpower, what would you want?
I wish I could sing, man. That’s what my magic power would be—to sing in key and sound rare. I’ve wanted that since I could talk.
Have you ever had a brush with the paranormal or supernatural?
Yeah, I’m sure when I was younger, but as I got older, I chose to tune that out. I think, as we get older, if we don’t practice tuning in, it gets harder to tune in to those powers.
What do you remember about your first kiss?
My first kiss was awful, hahaha.
What four words best describe you?
Passionate. Hardworking. Independent. Persistent.
What’s the last impulsive thing you did?
I’m really not sure. All I do is make music, or I’m in a plane the last few years. You kinda sacrifice everything for this. I hope I have some more impulsive times in my life!
Do you have a pet?
Yes, I have two cats: Lil’ Boosie and Peter.
What is your strongest or best personality trait?
I think my strongest traits are being able to do life through heart and feeling—and also being able to say “no,” knowing what I want in music and not jeopardizing my vision. I think I’m a good listener, as well, which really helps me soak information to learn more and grow. I’m persistent and won’t ever stop because I feel like it’s never good enough. (This could be a downfall.) I think overall, my taste that I was born with is the strongest gift I was given. Everything else came through obsession of music… I have no real talent; I just worked really hard and sacrificed nearly everything to learn.
Do you believe in any conspiracy theories or urban legends?
It’s whatever u believe, man.
