Kick Picks #2: The Best Kickstarter Campaigns to Back Right Now
Here’s our latest round of Kickstarter campaigns worth your consideration…
Versa Prima Portable LED Strips
San Diego’s Lumafi is seeking to raise $25,000 by December 29 to take cofounder Matt Gerpheide’s LED strip invention—which you may have seen on episodes of Golf Cart Confessions—to the next level. Created with music festivals in mind, the interlocking LED strips have a multitude of potential uses, including providing illumination for bikes at night, and are housed in a translucent “glotainer” that can also be used as a light in your room for those rare times when you’re not on the dancefloor. They’re offering great rewards, including the chance to acquire the Versa Prima kit that will retail for $99, for a donation of $35 or more. Check out our interview with the Lumafi founders for more info. Kick start them here.
Sleezy D and Marshall Jefferson’s Binaural Album
You know that beautiful creature you love that’s called house music? Chicago’s Marshall Jefferson is one of the original architects of the enduring international sound, and he’s teaming up with his old collaborator Sleezy D to record an innovative new album. The pair are generally credited as having released the first acid house record in 1986, and now Jefferson will record Sleezy on a special binaural microphone that he has invented that will optimally create a 3D effect inside your headphones. Yeah, trippy stuff. Incentives to donate include downloads of rough mixes in progress. They need to raise $10,000 by January 4. Kick start them here.
Joachim Garraud’s Producer Box
Grammy-nominated French DJ/producer and festival favorite Joachim Garraud, who has worked extensively with acts such as his fellow countrymen David Guetta and Jean-Michel Jarre, is seeking to raise an ambitious $500,000 by December 31 to produce 1,000 copies of his new Producer Box. It’s an insane-sounding combination of his new album 96/24, plus a drive loaded up with goodies like Ableton, video tutorials (available in multiple languages) walking you through Garraud’s production techniques, sounds from his secret arsenal, and all the project files for the album. Think of it as a boot camp for electronic producers. His rewards include the chance to select some of the master sessions and tutorials on the low end, and an in-person studio recording experience on the premium end. Kick start them here.
GrooveWasher: The Ultimate Record Cleaning System
Kansas City’s GrooveWasher has already raised more than the established $7,000 goal, which means the project will be fully funded and then some on December 17. Why should you still think about kicking down to support a scientifically improved version of what’s already been the best-selling record cleaning system on the market for decades? A donation of $40 or more will for sure get you the basic new GrooveWasher kit, which will retail for $60. Kick start them here.
