Kick Picks #4: The Best Kickstarter Campaigns to Back Right Now
Can you kick it? Yes, you can—and these current campaigns are definitely worth your attention.
Parallel Lines Drum & Bass Photography Book
Chicago photographer Lori Sapio is hoping to raise $19,500 by January 15 in order to publish Parallel Lines, a collection of images she shot in the US and UK in the late-‘90s drum & bass scene. Her subjects include major-era players like Goldie, Roni Size, Photek, Krust, Jumping Jack Frost, Blame, and the late Kemistry. At this point in her campaign, she could really use the boost—she already has a lot of tools to document this vital part of electronic music history for posterity, but she needs more money to get there. Incentives to donate include a copy of the book, postcards and fiber prints. Kickstart it here.
Hart Vinyl T-Shirts
For Dutch designer Jeroen Wellens, life is all about revolutions. So, he has designed a line of T-shirts for vinyl lovers, packaged in a record-like sleeve. Wellens has set a goal of collecting at least $7,558 in pledges by January 20. If his goal is met, he’ll be able to begin producing his ideas on a bigger level. Kickstart it here.
Recycled Vinyl Art
Heather Winiger of Ankeny, Iowa, has a modest goal of just $100 by January 28—of which more than half has already been raised—to purchase vinyl records so she can recycle them into art pieces. She’s offering rewards, including the chance to have your choice of “realistic” animals or people custom-painted onto a record. Kickstart it here.
Fathom-Encircled Sound Workshops for EDM Producers
The goal for Amsterdam-based sound engineer Charlie Macneil is to earn $34,368 by January 31 so he can mount a series of four producer workshops for learning about an immersive audio technology called Encircled, and how to produce songs that optimize its potential. The campaign allows interested donors to pledge for spaces, if they materialize, as well as a chance to perform their music live in Amsterdam. Kickstart it here.
