Kidnap Kid Tour Diary
It’s really hard not to fall in love with Kidnap Kid. With boyish good looks, dirty blond hair and a deep, blue-eyed stare, he’s built like an H&M model. Oh, he also produces sick beats.
Ever since making his debut on revered imprint Black Butter Records with “Vehl,” which was dubbed US iTunes’ Best Electronic Song of 2012, Kidnap Kid, born Matt Relton, has unleashed a nonstop avalanche of catchy, stuck-in-your-head tracks, from “So Close” and “Be More” to his latest heater, the beautiful, melody-driven emotional ride “Stronger.” His remix chops are top-notch, too, as seen in his reworking of massive tracks from fellow UK giants Disclosure and Rudimental.
Kidnap Kid is unstoppable on the decks, where he takes listeners beyond house grooves and funk rides. His in-demand sets have earned him supporting gigs on Disclosure’s European and US tours, as well as with Rudimental, TEED and AlunaGeorge.
Seeing his star skyrocket in front of us, and witnessing his growth as one of the most exciting producers out of the UK in recent years, we can’t help but keep our eyes on Kidnap Kid. It’s a good thing we’re watching now, as his globetrotting days are only increasing. To help keep up with his relentless show schedule, he has put together this exclusive and personal tour diary, which documents his journey from Beyond Wonderland to an insane week in Miami for Winter Music Conference/Miami Music week and a much-needed vacation in the Bahamas with his sweet and gorgeous girlfriend Natalie.
Stay tuned to Kidnap Kid’s ongoing tour diary here, as he captures his trip throughout festival season leading up to his anticipated performance at EDC New York.
Making friends in California (Beyond Wonderland 2015).
I headed to Disclosure’s Wildlife party out in Wynwood. My hangover from the Black Butter party was still pretty vicious, so I didn’t stay too late, but managed to catch TEED’s set. Awesome as ever!
Feeling fresh from my first proper night’s sleep in weeks. We hit the Beatport Lounge for some lunch and catch-ups with old friends. It was windy as hell up there, and everything kept blowing away, including the speakers, which then broke.
Mid-set b2b with Gorgon City at the Red Bull Guest House. Always time for a selfie when Justin Martin comes to party.
“You can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning.” Feeling good in South Beach (Miami, FL).
Walking along the boardwalk after eating my bodyweight in chicken with Natalie, my good friend and Miami local Seth, and tour manger Rhys.
I swung by the Anjunadeep party, as I’m a big fan of their label. We ended up hitting it pretty hard. Suddenly, it seemed like a great idea to extend the party by two hours and play a surprise b2b set with Moon Boots. I had nothing with me, so I had to buy all my own music on Beatport to play. Nice to know there’s at least one person buying my tracks!
We headed over to the Bahamas to chill out for a few days following Miami—rude not to, when you’re that close. Riding here in a water taxi from the airport over to Harbour Island.
In the back of the truck after a day out on the boat. I got badly burnt. I never learn.
Incredible view from our house. Paradise!
Running on the beach just before sunset. Trying to get some exercise in before getting back on the road.
Cliff-jumping at the Devil’s Backbone. I was the only male, so had to step up and take the lead here. It looked a lot higher from the top. Cannonball!!!
