Optical Illusion Backpacks and Bags Straight From a Comic
Talk about the perfect trippy accessory. JumpFromPaper specializes in optical illusion bags and backpacks that, as their name suggests, seem to literally leap from an artist’s page—becoming a 3 dimensional object that fools any admirers into seeing it in 2 dimensions. The beautiful idea for these one of a kind bags comes from Chinese designers Chay Su and Rika Lin who came up with the project during their time at university. By utilizing a flat comic book style, and a bit of raw ingenuity, they actually presented the idea for the bags as their graduation project at their design school in Taipei.
“They were obsessed with drawings at the time, and thought it might be fun to make everything into drawings. That’s how JumpFromPaper was born,” said Chingann Pinzann the head of marketing and PR at JumpFromPaper.
Su and Lin have since left the design team leaving Pinzann in charge of a small group of designers—but the JumpFromPaper aesthetic is still alive.
“There are three very talented young fashion designers who are working for the brand now. It’s a very young and creative team, we spend lots of time on the Internet, searching for new ideas and getting inspired from all the artists around the world… We love the digital artists we have found especially like Arivda Bystrom and Petra Collins,” said Pinzann.
One of the team’s favorites is their Pink Spaceman Backpack. “We love our pink spaceman backpack A LOT,” said Pinzann.
Since their inception the bags have seen huge success from fashion blogs and the like—many of which have deemed the bags: “wearable art.”
“The responses have been amazing. But we are trying not to get too excited about the attention, and put all of our focus into fun and new ideas for products,” said Pinzann.
2016 aims to be JumpFromPaper’s biggest year yet, so stay on the lookout for awesome new designs including their most recent collaboration with pop artist and Dr. Seuss inspired, 7, and his brand The Rodnik Band.
“We met Colbert in 2014 at his art show in London. We were pretty amazed by how similar are styles were. When two pop art brands like ours meet, it’s almost like we have to collaborate with one another. We use Rodnik Band’s printing on our 2D bags and also have created some crazy shaped bags that we’ve never done before! The only image I can share so far is this one,” said Pinzann.
Keep an eye out for their release, Headliners!
