The Count-Off: Loadstar
You can get the lowdown on an artist’s current happenings and read plenty of juicy gossip about them at way too many other places on the interweb; but we’re not having any of that here. Instead, The Count-Off aims to reveal a never-before-seen side of the top dance music names on our radar, by inviting them to share five songs, four things, three albums, two people and one wish.
5 songs I wish I’d made:
1. Fresh “Signal”
Probably my all-time favourite drum & bass tune!
2. Ed Rush & Optical “Alien Girl”
The bass sound and drums on this tune still sound incredible. How did they do this back in 1998?
3. Dillinja “Fluid”
Dillinja, the bassline master. This tune is one of his best!
4.Roni Size “It’s Jazzy”
When I first started going out in Bristol, this was the absolute anthem. I love the vibe of the tune, and the samples are sick.
5. Origin Unknown “Truly One”
Probably the first tune I heard from RAM Records and Andy C. I always loved the simplicity of the tune—it’s all about that sub-bass!
4 things I’m happy I did:
1.Buy the Chemical Brothers’ first album
I got this in 1995, and it really got me into electronic music.
2. Go to my first rave
This was a drum & bass party in Bristol, and I only went as it was the only place that would let us underage kids in. It was going to these nights that made me fall in love with drum & bass.
3. Give up my day job working in a bank
I feel immensely lucky to have been able to do this and make a living off doing the things I love.
4.Play at EDC Las Vegas
The best show we’ve ever played.
3 albums everyone should own:
Chemical Brothers – Exit Planet Dust
As I said before, this got me into dance music.
Roni Size – New Forms
Mercury Music Prize-winning drum & bass album, and a stone-cold classic!
Leftfield – Leftism
Another classic album from my childhood.
2 people I wish I could hang out with:
1. Prince
Musical genius, and one of the coolest guys on the planet.
2. Valentino Rossi
I’m a massive MotoGP fan, and he’s the godfather.
1 thing I wish everyone knew:
Drum & bass isn’t fast dubstep!
