iQ: Sander Van Doorn

What was your favorite toy as a child, and when and why did you stop playing with it?
I used to have a big toy castle that I could play with for hours, but eventually I just grew out of it.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Did you take it?
To take joy out of every moment—and that’s definitely something I did. It’s important to live every day of your life like it’s your last, because time goes by so quick. Enjoy every moment.

What part of your day do you look forward to most?
There are multiple, haha. When I wake up, I want to get in the studio as soon as possible. So in the morning, I’m usually focused on that. In the evenings, I enjoy going out to eat somewhere.

What’s the best time you’ve ever had without spending money?
There are so many little moments! I like to become one with my environment. I recently moved to Amsterdam. I love this city—walking through the little alleys and streets, and things like that. It’s completely free and makes me really happy.

What is your most treasured possession?
The freedom to be able to do what I love. I have the opportunity to let my creative mind do its thing every day and live my life in a great way.

What is your favorite word?
Love.

Do you owe an apology to anyone?
No, I always own up to my mistakes. I’m not afraid to apologize for something I did wrong.

When is the last time you were really scared?
I can’t really remember.

What is the last thing you googled?
I’m really interested in the cities and places I’m traveling to, so I think it’s the population of a city.

What’s the last sound you would want to hear before you die?
The voice of my wife. I know this sounds way too cheesy, but it’s true.

Do you have any recurring dreams or nightmares? If not, what’s the last dream you remember having?
I’ve never really had recurring dreams. I’m really bad in general at remembering my dreams, so I have no idea, haha.

How do you measure success?
How many people I make happy with my music.

If you could have one magical/superpower, what would you want, and why?
I think the ability to fly. I watch a lot of Marvel movies and think they’re really awesome.

Have you ever had a brush with the paranormal or supernatural?
No, but I do believe there is something beyond life.

What do you remember about your first kiss?
Haha, not much. I was very young, and it was pretty awkward.

What four words best describe you?
Relaxed, determined, perfectionist, passionate.

What’s the last impulsive thing you did?
Getting a tattoo, haha.

Do you have a pet? Tell us a story about it/him/her.
I have a French bulldog. He’s really stubborn and only does what he pleases. Besides that, I absolutely adore him, and I get so happy when I see him.

What is your strongest or best personality trait?
Being supportive.

Do you believe in any conspiracy theories or urban legends?
No.
