Music is an art form, and a lot of album covers can be considered art in themselves, but Christian Marclay takes the vinyl art game to a whole ‘nother level.

Since the late ‘70s, Marclay has experimented with the black wax to compose musical and visual collages similar to what DJs do with their turntables. In the past, he’s worked with famous album covers to create absurd portraits, but his latest project culminates in something entirely new.

Marclay is showing new visual works in a solo exhibition, from paintings to video installations, at White Cube in London from January 28 to April 12, 2015. During every weekend of the exhibition, the London Sinfonietta and other contemporary artists will join the show for live musical performances. Those sessions will then be captured on wax, with help from the Vinyl Factory. Each record will get a unique silk-screen sleeve by the Coriander Press. It’s going to be one big, fun hodgepodge of art, music and collaborative effort. While the exhibition and all of the performances are free and open to the public, spaces will be limited on a first come, first served basis.

For more info on the exhibit, visit the White Cube website and email [email protected] for full program details.
