Turn Down the Lights With Alan Fitzpatrick’s Nocturnal Wonderland Playlist
What does one of the world’s leading techno juggernauts listen to after the sun sets? In the case of Alan Fitzpatrick, the answer is not your typical 4×4 dance cuts. From Iggy Pop to Bruce Springsteen, Fitzpatrick definitely has a sweet spot for everything from rock & roll to disco. We caught up with the UK artist ahead of his set at Nocturnal Wonderland this Saturday, where he’ll be throwing down on the Drumcode stage alongside Adam Beyer and crew, so dive into his nocturnal selections below.
London Grammar “Nightcall”
I’m a big London Grammar fan and am totally head-over-heels for Hannah’s voice. “Nightcall” is a great example of their work, as it’s both melancholic and uplifting at the same time. Amazing!
Iggy Pop “Nightclubbing”
Who doesn’t love a bit of Iggy Pop? What a legend! Many of you will know this track from the Trainspotting motion picture soundtrack, which was a big part of my discovery of the whole club culture scene in the mid-‘90s.
Brainbug “Nightmare”
Another moment from my youth! This was one of the first dance tracks that I remember being a big commercial hit.
The Moody Blues “Nights in White Satin”
This is a genuine classic, and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like this track. It’s timeless.
Kele “Stay the Night”
This is such a beautifully emotional and honest song. I love Kele’s music, and I really hope he goes on to be a big success.
Bee Gees “Night Fever”
What is there to say about this track that hasn’t already been said? Maybe an explanation of the lyrics? I’m not sure anyone actually knows what they are singing, other than the chorus [laughs]!
Alan Fitzpatrick “For an Endless Night”
True story: This was actually an unofficial video that a fan made for me. I loved it so much, we made it the official video for the single, and they went on to make the official videos for “In the Beginning” and “Organic,” too.
Brian Eno “Under Stars”
This man is a modern musical master. I’m saying nothing; just close your eyes and listen.
Bruce Springsteen “Dancing in the Dark”
The Boss! This is pure rock & roll energy that always puts me in a great mood when I hear it.
Aphrohead “In the Dark We Live” (Dave Clarke 312 Mix)
Dave Clarke getting to grips with Felix da Housecat. This techno classic was massive back in the day, and it still destroys the clubs now.
