Zima, 219 Boys and SNR’s Top Things to Do in the Bay
With Beyond Wonderland Bay Area right around the corner, many Headliners will be venturing to the steep streets of San Francisco and its surrounding metropolis for a weekend of friends, dancing and great music. “The City” and “the Town” offer a lot to see, which is why we sent a few of our Discovery Project alumni around the Bay Area to be tourists, so you don’t have to.
Our house-heads, the 219 Boys and Bay Area native Zima, teamed up to find some Bay Area gems, while our eclectic feels-evoking producer SNR helped out as well. Some of these attractions are well known, such as Ruby Skye and Golden Gate Park, while others might not be familiar even to locals, like the Vintage Synth Museum. They’re all worth checking while you’re in the area, so make the most of your Beyond Bay weekend.
Beyond Wonderland Bay Area: 2-Day Passes | Saturday Tickets Sold Out | Sunday Tickets
219 Boys & Zima
Zima is playing at 1pm on Saturday, and 219 Boys are playing at 1pm on Sunday, both at Mad Hatter’s Castle.
1. Grizzly Peak / Berkeley Hills
219 Boys: Hands-down, one of the best views in the Bay Area. On a clear day, you can see all the way to San Francisco. With plenty of spots to pull over and park, this is one of our favorite places to just chill and relax.
2. Belden Place / San Francisco
Zima: My favorite location to eat at, as it takes me back to those French-European vibes. The lit-up patios make this a great romantic spot to take that special someone on a date, too, and the food is exquisite. In my eyes, this little alleyway is a gem, and a lovely getaway from the financial district.
3. The Vintage Synthesizer Museum / Oakland
219 Boys: Yes, the Bay Area has several production education schools and courses, but do you want that extra synth knowledge? Then head over to the fantastic collection of original and functional synthesizers, and take a class on how to set up patches and make the analog hum. For more information or to visit, check them out here.
4. Alameda Theater / Alameda
Zima: Just a block away from my high school, and a 15-minute walk from my house, is a spot where my family, friends and I have spent a lot of time together. I love watching movies here, because the theater is gorgeous and a perfect place to go to after a night out on Park Street. To me, it’s more than just a landmark; it’s home.
5. Ruby Skye / San Francisco
Zima: aka my home away from home. This is where my career really got started. When I turned 18, I got the opportunity to interview for a promoter/resident position, and I was lucky enough to get it. For three years, I’ve promoted and played countless shows. I’ve had the pleasure of opening for major acts such as Steve Angello, Nadia Ali, Darude, Audien, and so forth. Unfortunately, Ruby was booked for a business conference the day of the shoot, so we weren’t able to get a shot of the logo outside, but here is me with Ruby’s Beyond Wonderland pre-party flyer!
6. BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) / Bay Area
219 Boys: It’s an integral part of the public transportation system to get around the Bay Area. You can go into the East Bay, all the way down the peninsula to Millbrae. Any working DJ uses the BART often to avoid traffic, help the environment, and see some of the craziest random people San Francisco has to offer.
7. Transamerica Pyramid Center / San Francisco
Zima: This summer, I graduated from Ex’pression College as an audio engineer, and just last month I landed an internship at a recording and post-production studio called Swell Music + Sound. The studio is located on Gold Street, which is a couple blocks up Montgomery, and I get to pass by this spectacle every morning that I go to work. Plus, how many cities get to say that they have a pyramid?
8. Papalote Mexican Grill / Mission District
219 Boys: Serving up some of the best Mexican food in the Bay, Papalote is a definite 219 hotspot. It’s always relatively busy, but it keeps a pretty chill vibe. And if you get a chance to come here, make sure you get an extra side of that amazing tortilla chip sauce! Feel free to experiment, because anything you order is bomb dot com. Also, this spot was voted best burrito in SF!
9. Naval Air Station & Port of Oakland / Alameda & Oakland
Zima: This wide stretch of land (of the land that we have) is most famous for MythBusters, The Matrix, and import car shows. But to the locals, it’s our little hideaway with an excellent skyline view of the city. Plus, we have our own Star Wars-like AT-ATs that like to get busy during the night at the docks.
10. California Academy of Sciences Nightlife / Golden Gate Park
219 Boys: On Thursday nights, it’s one of the best places to visit for great drinks, great food and an amazing look at the museum. Instead of just seeing the exhibits during the day, why not walk around with legit beats from DJs of all genres and a cocktail in hand.
SNR
SNR is playing at 2pm on Sunday at Queen’s Domain.
1. Fort Baker
A great, secluded spot on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge, where you can catch an awesome view and chill with friends.
2. Mission Peak
I’m biased toward this one, because the trail begins right next to my studio in the South Bay! Definitely one of the best hikes and views in the Bay.
3. Audio SF
This venue/lounge holds a special place in my heart, because it’s where our Adrenalin Room parties really started taking off. Awesome people, great vibes and sick music. What more can you ask for?
4. Panther Beach
Located in Santa Cruz, this is hands-down my favorite beach in the Bay.
5. Philz Coffee
I’m a coffee snob, and it doesn’t get much better than Philz. You won’t find it anywhere else in the world, because it was brought up right here in the Bay Area.
