Sound Advice: Markus Schulz
Upcoming Event
In this advice column, international superstar DJ Markus Schulz answers your questions on love, life and dancing!
Dear Markus,
You’ve always got mad style. What’s the best way to dress for the festival?
Sartorially yours,
Dressed to Impress
Dear DTI,
The coolest people are always the ones dressed appropriately for the situation. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and clothes you can take off when it gets hot—but then put back on as the night gets cooler. Like most great music, it’s all about the layers.
Dear Markus,
What’s the best way to approach a girl on the dance floor?
Hopefully,
Rave Romantic
Dear Mr. Romantic,
The best way to do this is by waiting for a song that she absolutely loves. You can tell because it will be the one she’s singing all the words to. Walk up to her, sing along, and then tell her how much you love the song as well. It helps if you’re knowledgeable about current EDM. That’s important.
Dark Markus,
This is my first EDC. What do I need to know so I can have the best time ever?
Eagerly,
Virgin Raver
Dear Virgin,
Challenge yourself and go visit one stage that you wouldn’t normally have. Nowadays, there are so many types of EDM, it’s great to know not just one style, but to be well-versed and enjoy many different ones.
Dear Markus,
I want to spend as much time as possible at the fest, but I don’t want to get burned out too early. How do you go hard for 12 hours straight?
Peace and love,
In it For the Long Haul
Dear LH,
Pace yourself. Don’t start your day at the hardstyle stage. Ease in with the deep house guys and work your way up to more chill house music; then, as the night goes on, move to the main stages. You’ll find that you still have energy to burn when you get there.
Dear Markus,
How do I recover after two days at the festival?
Sleepily,
Worn Out
Dear WO,
No matter what, go to the gym the day after the event. A sauna will do wonders to sweat out the weekend’s toxins. And drinks lots of water. Lots and lots of water.
Dear Markus,
My friends are all into hardstyle, but I love techno. Should I hang out with them during the festival, or go solo and see the music I’m into?
Confusedly,
Genre Conflict
Dear GC,
That’s easy: Meet them at the trance stage.
