Alex Stein Teams With K.A.L.I.L. for Dark, Driving “Surge” of Melodic Techno
For their final release of the year, the Filth on Acid label scored a collaborative EP that saw Alex Stein teaming up with K.A.L.I.L. for two cuts of quality techno. The Emerge EP sees the pair delivering an epic two-tracker, and we’ve got the classy B-side “Surge” as our Track of the Day.
“We always wondered what would happen if you put two producers with roots from the land of the samba, football, Gold Coast lines, Carnival and caipirinhas in the studio to make an EP,” says the label. “The result shows artistry of two techno producers with a party mind.”
“Surge” gets the momentum moving quickly, its slamming kick setting the tone with brief embellishments of melody hinting at what’s to come. The arrangements are layered superbly, and the soundscape builds toward an early peak three minutes in, where the pair pull the tension back in again like a rubber band before releasing its full techno power.
Available December 28 via Filth on Acid.
