Bears in Space began as the creative brain child of Chris Bowen (Shits & Giggles) and Kevin Carney of the Black Disco label in June of 2009. With the blessing of Beats in Space’s own Tim Sweeney, it began as a monthly event at Akbar in Silver Lake in Los Angeles. With Carney leaving in 2012, Bowen brought in DJ partner and mentor Victor Rodriguez and turned the monthly event into a seasonal 12 hour lot party in the back parking lot of Akbar. The party features food trucks, vendors and a drag show at dusk and has hosted such names as DJ Harvey, Optimo, Discodromo, Eric Duncan, Lovefingers & Heidi Lawden to name a few.
