James Axon is the cofounder & resident of the queer underground party Planet Love, and a resident of Dublab with his radio show “Hearing Color” — both platforms he dedicates to underground dance music. A lifelong pianist and classically trained musician, James Axon spent years in bands and orchestras ensembles before falling in love with the timeless sounds of house and techno while studying in Copenhagen and Berlin. With over a decade of collecting dance records since, Axon now draws upon his musicality and eclectic taste as a DJ that espouses an expansive vision of dance music, often mixing seamlessly between all shades of house, techno, italo, electro, disco, and breaks. Often drawn to the ‘grey area’ and hard-to-classify tracks, Axon’s selections stem from a deep love and fascination with the infinite possibilities of synthesis and sound design. His sets are always colorful, eclectic, and intuitively reflective of the setting. Whether playing cosmic disco in an intimate loft or hypnotic techno in a dark foggy warehouse, he still finds a sound that is distinctly James Axon: melodic, driving, dreamy, and synth-heavy. Axon’s DJing has taken him to clubs both around the country and internationally, with recent appearances at Sunday Sunday CDMX, Good Room NYC, and Por Detroit LA.
