Micro

Genre: Electronic

Origin: United States

Internationally acclaimed as one of the US’s premiere dance music producers and re-mixers there are few artists who can match DJ Micro’s credentials. Once described by URB Magazine as the “Techno Maestro”, Micro’s versatility, smooth mixes, and superb sense of dance rhythms have propelled him to the top of the electronic music world.

Nominated by DJ Times as “America’s Best DJ” and by the Club Music Awards for the “Best DJ Set” in 2008, Micro is no stranger to the international dance music scene. Playing to thousands of party-goers worldwide, he has performed in countries including Japan, England, Canada, Dubai, and Brazil to name a few.

Micro’s introduction to the electronic music scene came in the early 1990’s mega clubs Metrohouse and The Dome in New York City. Eager to bring techno to Long Island, Micro convinced a local club owner to dedicate one night a week to techno music and club Reign was born. Micro quickly turned his passion into a lifestyle and came up with the idea for Caffeine, Long Island’s first all-techno nightclub. Specializing in acid breakbeats, Micro spun at all of Caffeine’s capacity –filled parties as one of their resident DJs. Established as a clubbing institute on the East Coast, the weekly club night grew into one of the most popular brands among the techno scene. Amired by the Rave kids, the Caffeine brand spawned into a record label and Caffeine Clothing, which became all the rage around the country. Micro sums it up, “Caffeine is music, dancing, and fashion – that’s the concept.”

With the popularity of Caffeine, Micro started touring and performing at rave parties around the US. As a natural progression from his success as a DJ, Micro joined forces with Vicious Vic under the pseudonym ‘Progression’ to produce a series of hugely successful remixes and original works. The duo became overnight heroes in the international dance scene following the release of their massive debut single ‘Reach Further’ which became an instant club smash. The increasingly sought after duo were soon commissioned to remix artists from Paradise 3001 and Joe T. Vanelli to Masters at Work, as well as a wickedly groovy remix of the Dado’s ‘X Files’ theme. In 1996, Progression’s first album ‘Progress Into Our Future’ on Sorted Records received an overwhelming response and was described by Mixmag as “seamlessly mixed and a hardcore good time.”

An accomplished and yet skilled professional, Micro has a larger catalog of albums than all but a few of his peers, releasing over 13 CD’s and selling well over a half million albums. DJ Micro has produced a successive string of hits for some of the world’s most respected labels including the UK’s Open label formed by the Ministry of Sound, Strictly Rhythm, Nervous/Sorted, Adrenalin, Black Sunshine, Moonshine and Moist Music. After his debut disc, 1997’s Coast to Coast, on Roadrunner Records, he later moved to Moonshine, on which he released half-dozen albums, including 1998’s Micro-Tech-Mix, the first in a series of ultra-danceable collections. Tech-Mix 5, from New York-based System Recordings, brought the progression up-to-date with a propulsive merger of trance and break beat culled from thumpers like M.I.K.E. (“Massive Motion”), George Hales (“Isolation”) and others.

Forever exploring new musical horizons, his original style of mixing energy-driven trance, progressive house, and break beats continually entices audiences. With the recent resurrection of his own label Caffeine Recordings, Micro puts his producing and mixing prowess to work for his own creations as well as working with up and coming talent. “I wanted to create an outlet for groundbreaking music. Some of the best stuff never gets heard. So, bringing back Caffeine [Records] this is my way of exposing it to the light.”

As Long Island’s pioneer of rave parties, creator of the Caffeine brand and lifestyle, producer, and re-mixer, DJ Micro’s mastery has solidified a ‘mega-cosmic’ spot in electronic music history. This acclaimed DJ, re-mixer, producer, and label founder as described by XLR8TR as “unleashing a groove too thick to mention” never fails to conjure an ecstatic night of pumping progressive sounds on the dance floor.
