Overmono

Genre: Electronic
Origin: United Kingdom
Tom and Ed Russell are two brothers who grew up in rural South Wales, a cultural nowhere where they had to make their own fun. Through putting on parties in the back rooms of pubs and throwing free parties, the duo enjoyed their formative years away from the noise of big cities, a freedom that shaped the sound of Overmono. By the time Ed was 16, the brothers were best friends, and although they initially pursued separate solo careers, they became frustrated with the limitations. Packing a car full of gear, they hired a cottage in Wales with no agenda or intention. The result of that trip was the birth of Overmono, a dance act whose debut record positioned them in the history of British electronic music alongside acts such as The Chemical Brothers and Burial.
The duo started dropping music through their own label Poly Kicks, and in 2020, they released a run of EPs on XL Recordings over two years. These releases cemented Overmono’s position as fiercely innovative underground producers, receiving praise from artists like Thom Yorke, while their 2021 single “So U Kno”—awarded Track of the Year by Resident Advisor—established them as one of the UK’s most exciting electronic acts.
In 2023, Overmono released their long-awaited debut album, Good Lies, to critical acclaim, with The Guardian declaring, “UK rave history is distilled to perfection.” The album landed at #11 in the UK Charts and is widely regarded as one of the greatest electronic records produced in recent years. Their subsequent releases—including “Blow Out,” “Freedoom 2” (with Kwengface and Joy Orbison), “Gem Lingo” featuring Ruthven, and the collaborative single “stayinit” with Lil Yachty and Fred Again—along with their highly sought-after version of The Streets’ “Turn The Page” (described by The Times as “a techno remix for a new generation”)—reinforce the duo’s ability to defy expectations and reshape the landscape of electronic music, solidifying their status as “the UK’s next massive dance duo” (The Face).
Beyond music, Overmono has carved a presence in the fashion world, collaborating with brands such as Burberry, Prada, and Stone Island, while also working with in-demand designer Matthew Williams to curate the 1017 ALYX 9SM launch for Paris Fashion Week, marking their second collaboration since the 2023 Givenchy Fall/Winter show.
All the while, Overmono has developed their award-winning audio-visual live show with creative directors William Aspden and Rollo Jackson. After winning “Best Live Act” at the DJ Mag Best of British Awards and racking up millions of views via a unique Boiler Room takeover at Manchester’s Warehouse Project, Overmono continues to dominate the live circuit. Last year, they announced and immediately sold out two all-day events—Pure Devotion Bristol and Manchester’s Warehouse Project—as part of their 2024 Pure Devotion World Tour, which saw them perform their biggest headline shows in Brooklyn, Toronto, London, Osaka, and Tokyo. They have also performed at some of the world’s biggest festivals, with forthcoming appearances at Reading & Leeds, Melt!, Roskilde, Sziget, HARD Summer, Fuji Rock, Coachella, Portola, Primavera, and Ancienne Belgique.
