Seth Jones’ love of music began in the rolling hills and pine thickets of north Louisiana. He picked up the trombone in middle school band, which quickly led him to the guitar and piano, the two instruments Jones finds himself on the most these days. Playing in coffee shops, at parties, and with friends, a career in music was never a consideration of Jones’. That changed when he moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of eighteen. It was there that his passion and drive for music truly developed. While attending Belmont University, Jones began writing songs and honing his musical skills within the community in Nashville. By the time he left school, he had formed a band, toured the country, gotten a record deal, and was writing full time at a Nashville publishing company. During his 10 years in Nashville, Jones worked with a number of artists including acts like Tyler Byrant, Jonny Lang, The Veronicas, Dave Barnes, Matt Wertz, Ben Rector, For King and Country, Mindy Smith, Matthew Perryman Jones, Audrey Assad and many others. As a producer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist, Jones describes himself as someone who comes alongside artists to help them develop and execute their message and sound.
“Artistry is such a delicate thing. It’s personal, but it can rarely be done alone, especially in music. It takes a team of people to spread an artist’s vision, and it starts with the writing and recording process.”
Unlike the “music factories” of today, Jones calls on a rich ancestry of songwriting and marries that to a modern context.
“I love all types of music. Pop, rock, hip hop, singer-songwriter… they’re all different flavors I enjoy. In order for me to fall in love with something, I have to hear an artist’s soul in their music. I don’t want to hear someone else’s words. I want to hear their own. Even if they didn’t write them, the words they sing have to be true to what that artist wants to say. I love helping them find those words.”
Jones has worked extensively with artists in Europe including Leslie Clio, Stefanie Heinzmann, Fetsum, Jack Strify (Cineman Bizarre), The Baseballs, 3Js, Marit Larsen, and others.
“I’ve been lucky enough to get to travel the world writing and producing music. Music, more than any other form of art has such strong power. I love helping artists reach down into their hearts and discover things to share with people. Life is hard, and I think it makes the world a better place when people hear music that reminds them that they’re not alone.”
