Wave Point
Genre: House
Origin: United States
Expert skills, decades of experience and a fresh perspective. It’s a rare combination of qualities in any business, but it’s exactly what Chicago-raised and Detroit-based DJ and producer Wave Point brings to the table
Bryan Jones is the mastermind behind this slick and soulful new groove. A drummer since the age of 8, he traded in his kit for turntables as soon as he went to his first rave. Traveling from his native Indiana to Chicago regularly to get the latest house record fix, Jones dedicated his life to pulsing club rhythms and intoxicating grooves.
He’s released records under a few names since the mid 2000s, most recently as one-half of house banger duo Golf Clap. Through the project and its Country Club Disco label and radio shows, Jones nabbed his first Pete Tong Essential Tune, worked with Todd Edwards and dropped sets at Boiler Room and Mixmag’s In the Lab. He won the hearts fans from Lollapalooza to Movement Festival, Electric Forest, FriendShip and more.
A steady tour and release schedule kept him busy for years, but the quiet of quarantine afforded the artist a real chance to dig deep and give life to the music within. He left the duo, and now he’s going all in on a sweet and dreamy style from a Higher Dimension.
Mixing classic house nostalgia with futuristic techniques and lofi feeling, Higher Dimension is the sound of an artist in total control. The debut album plays funky with instrumental fills and warm textural layers. Tapping bass players, string quartets and a myriad of other musicians from around the world, its disco-laced tunes shine bright with organic sounds and that comforting human touch. From the lyrical mantras of the titular opening track to the quirky lounge-bass of “Different Sounds” and the muted maximalism of “Feeling,” the 10-track collection is perfect for both a shining night on the town or reflective afternoon at home.
Jones is more in his element than ever before, armed with the know-how of so many years in the game as well as the confidence to follow his time-tested instincts. After a Groundhog Day year in the studio, Wave Point is ready to crash dance floors across the country. He’s long mastered the art of crowd reading, moving from hard house beats to driving techno and feel-good funk with ease. Mean, clean and versatile, Wave Point is booked to bring his limitless style back to this year’s Movement event and clubs across the country.
Higher Dimension is due out in August on his own label Even Smoother. It’s been a long journey, but the moment has just begun.
