Barely Royal and PVC Bring Groove to the Grit on “So in Love”

UK bass purveyor Barely Royal is back with the Saucy Records team to unleash a serious EP named The Alliance. It’s six tracks of pure madness that not only run the gamut of Royal’s skills, but also enlist a massive set of other talents.

While all of the tracks here stand out for their own reasons, “So in Love” is an excellent example of what to expect. On this heater, Barely Royal has teamed up with PVC (Purple Velvet Curtains), adding the vocal talents of Abi F Jones to round things out. Slipping mistily in as a breezy, upbeat helping of UKG, Jones carries these ideas aloft with her captivating R&B vocals. This groove locks in and stays long enough to fully hook the listener before letting the other shoe drop. And “drop” is definitely the operative term, as the tune breaks into a jagged bassline synth with grit that gives just a nod to some filthy style.

Barely Royal and PVC merge these two styles seamlessly, letting one build and drop into the other. The selling point here is the vocals, which become the bridge between the more pop-leaning, pad-fueled moments and the hard-hitting wobbles. Beyond that, both aspects are allowed to breathe for a decent amount of time, with enough overlap to keep the track from feeling disjointed. All aspects are catchy and made for the dancefloor, ensuring a solid response all around. Again, it’s just one fine example of what you can expect from The Alliance EP.
