Cause & Affect Takes Serious Business to the Next Level With “Kickin the Door”
After a much lauded reuniting with Kane of Cause & Affect for an insane B2B live set, it was only a matter a time before Chris Lorenzo officially released some of the secret weapons that got that crowd so heated. Dropping on his Bass Mentality brand turned label, these Cause & Affect numbers are simply massive.
“I set up Bass Mentality to represent everything I stand for when it come to the club and the dancefloor,” Lorenzo tells Insomniac. “It’s not a specific genre, sound or tempo—it’s about quality club music that rocks your soul, and applies to whether I’m programming a lineup for a show or releasing an EP of club weapons.”
The first EP titled Bass Mentality arrives next week, and features “Kickin Down the Door,” a beast of a bass track that brings big grime to the four-on-the-floor tempo. Deep and raw, this track bumps in, before a thick and jagged bassline rips through the mix. Aided by the words of Biggie himself, these sounds drive hard. Almost more club than UKG, “Kickin the Door” brings in drum rolls and energized claps, along with a host of other percussive elements to keep the dynamic and drive actively engaging. Haunted stabs and samples fire away under the shuffled kick, giving a lot of headway for the larger elements to go hard.
Though this is a mind-melter through and through, Cause & Affect never let things get out of hand or overblown; it’s just the right amount of energy dropped at just the right moments that pushes this tune to the next level. Tied all together, this number is sure to make rude boys and gyals tear the floor up.
