Anyone who’s ever experienced a Cinco de Mayo celebration knows things can get loud and rowdy. That’s because today marks a culturally and historically significant day for Mexico, so the party reaches maximum velocity real quick.

Cinco de Mayo, which translates to “May 5,” commemorates the Mexican army’s upset against French forces at the storied Battle of Puebla, which took place May 5, 1862. If your friends are claiming Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day, please slap some facts on them: September 16 is the day the nation celebrates its independence, not Cinco de Mayo.

Whether you’re Mexican or not, today serves as a day of festivities and remembrance here in the US as well as Mexico, and everyone is welcome to join. As such, we’re celebrating the culturally and musically diverse sounds of the nation. From deep house and dark techno to straight-up weird vibes, experience Mexican electronic music in this hand-selected playlist.

¡Viva Mexico!
