Vol. 53
We’ve put together some of our favorite tunes from Discovery Project alumni for you. We do this regularly, so keep checking in with the Alumni Tracks You Should Know series to see the latest and greatest from our Discovery Project artists.
Francis Derelle & Hopsteady “Imaginary Friends”
Francis Derelle and Hopsteady are two of Circus Records’ most recent signings. They debuted on the taste-making bass music label with massive remixes of Flux Pavilion tunes, and they have now teamed up to bring their melodic styles together on “Imaginary Friends.” Euphoric, hushed pads open up this tune and provide a stark contrast to the raging screwball synth and pounding 808 bass on the first drop. The boys do a glorious job of bringing it all together once the second drop comes in to crack the whip.

Drezo “Jaded”
Drezo takes his sound design into the outer limits with this filthy slow-burner. Mutated glitches and metallic cracks swirl around your head as a bouncing, sub-thumping 808 keeps time. Turn this up to 11, let it envelop you, and you will finally understand what it feels like to rave inside of a transformer while it makes the change from flashy car to full-on robot. Yeah, it’s kind of like that.

Dirtyphonics x RIOT “Got Your Love”
You might have heard this one at this year’s EDC Las Vegas, blasting from the speakers of bassPOD, or perhaps even during Dirtyphonics’ extra-special Monstercat set from atop the Kalliope art car. Whatever the case, the buzz on this monstrous collaboration with DP alum RIOT has been huge. It’s not just the constantly evolving, tough-as-nails bassline—or the funky little amen breaks that give you just a taste of D&B—that drive the tune. It’s those gorgeous, soulful vocals, giving you just a slight breath of fresh air between the walls of heavy bass, that really give this tune its character.
