Introducing the Electric Forest 2018 Discovery Project Inductees
Before Discovery Project had crystallized, opportunities for emerging talent to prove themselves were few and far between. But since the ball started rolling for our competition series, the main mission has remained the same: Tap into the expansive diversity of dance music’s talent pool and continue to expose some of the dopest artists tucked away in the industry. This year, Electric Forest joins Discovery Project in welcoming four outstanding artists into the ever-growing collective. Andy P, Iris, Zimbu, and HrzSoGood, the latest inductees, embody the kind of creativity and artist integrity we’ve sought from day one.
Andy P
Serving as a mainstay in San Francisco for nearly a decade, Andy P’s skills as a bona fide selector are second to none. His blend of bass-dominated house and booty-shaking breakbeat definitely grabbed our attention, while previously earning him support from the likes of My Nu Leng and Stanton Warriors. He’s excited to make his Insomniac debut: “It’s such an honor to throw down some house, bass, and breaks at Electric Forest. I’m on my way to rep the Bay!”

Iris
Iris moved to L.A. to pursue her musical dreams after falling into DJing in her native Virginia. Her unmatched skills behind the decks have led her to become a fixture at local institutions, like Space Yacht and Insomniac’s Bassrush shows. She’s still shocked by her Discovery Project win: “I’m still waiting for Ashton Kutcher to come out and say, ‘YOU’VE BEEN PUNK’D!’ Haha. I’ve always wanted to attend Electric Forest, and the fact that the first time I’m going, I’m actually playing, is surreal! I’ve been waiting six years for an opportunity like this, so I’m 10,000 percent bringing on the bass!”

Zimbu
Zimbu is a multitalented artist. His distorted experimental take on bass music is full of glitched-out, mind-altering sound design. As if his insane beats aren’t reason enough to put him on the map, he’s also a talented drummer, having blessed the stage of the legendary Low End Theory.

HrzSoGood
Lastly, the genre-bending duo known as HrzSoGood makes no attempt to fall into any single category. The Chicago pair of DJ/producers linked up to match their love of turntablism, dance music, and bottom-heavy beats in a way that will “leave your ears ringing till they ‘hurt so good.’”
