Drumsound & Bassline Smith Give the All-Time Classic “Dreadlock” an Epic Makeover
The legendary Breakbeat Kaos imprint is celebrating its 15th year in the game, and there’s no better way to remind drum & bass heads just how influential the imprint was in its heyday—while also launching a new salvo for the future—than through its next massive issue. Founded by DJ Fresh and Adam F, the imprint has spawned an unholy number of now-legendary producers and anthems over the years, with their soon-to-be-released Junglesound: Revenge of the Bass (15 Years of Breakbeat Kaos) album compilation serving as a masterclass of the past, present, and future of the imprint.
Featuring a slew of all-time favorites alongside brand-new exclusives and remixes, the project is designed to not only bring on the nostalgia but also announce the return of the imprint to center stage.
“When I started Breakbeat Kaos with Adam F, we wanted to start a label that showcased the most memorable drum & bass moments,” Fresh says. “We never expected the success of Pendulum and other label cohorts such as Brookes Brothers, Baron, Nero, and Chase & Status, but we tried to give them the best platform we could. After two #1 and ten top-10 records, I wanted to give something back to the D&B scene and celebrate 15 years of BBK in the only way we know how: bangers!”
Leading the pack in the banger category is this untouchable re-fix of the all-time drum & bass classic “Dreadlock” from Future Prophecies. Whether you remember this one going down in a dank underground in your hometown or hearing your favorite DJ smash it out at WMC in South Beach back in the day, the hook on this one is instantly recognizable—so, living up to the original is a mighty task. Who better to take it on than Drumsound and Simon Bassline Smith, who have proved time and time again they can take a classic and inject it with their own flavor. The resulting remix is an all-out assault on the dancefloor that not only pays proper homage to the original but resurrects this beast from yesteryear and gives it a proper new-school spin.
