Ekai and Medusa Merge on Hyper-Percussive Slice of Garage House Funk “Champagne in Glass”
Barcelona’s Ekai teamed up with Hot Creations’ Mizbee, under her Medusa alias, for a hyper-percussive slice of garage-house-flavored funk called “Champagne in Glass.” The title track from his EP on Roush Records makes the most of rhythm, while Medusa provides vocals that recall Debbie Harry’s honeydew but streetwise stylings. The combination makes for an instant earworm that kicks and coos like early ‘90s Saint Etienne getting remixed by Masters at Work.
Ekai’s a veteran of Elrow, Spain’s larger-than-life, immersive parties, and “Champagne in Glass” delivers the big-room sound you’d expect at one of their infamous events.
Available September 28 via Roush.
