Enter ‘The Asylum’ With Figure and Dack Janiels Leading the Way on “Dr. Death”
Figure’s annual Monsters LP project returns just in time for that late-night haunt that he does so well. The theme of the ninth installation is centered around the concept of The Asylum, which promises to take listeners on a cinematic journey through the depths of the dubstep and bass realms.
With the first single from the forthcoming LP about to drop this Friday, we can already get a sense of the twisted narrative Figure is cooking up. The ever-impressive Dack Janiels steps in to help tell the tale of “Dr. Death” and the unfortunate soul known as Patient 138, who’s trying to find a way to escape the confines of the asylum walls.
From expertly placed vocal samples to hair-raising stabs and rib-rattling wobbles, the sinister precision that Figure and Dack Janiels pull off on the sound design tip mirrors the terrifying skill the character known as Dr. Death is inflicting upon his prey, putting the listener in the role of patient and then punishing them with an unrelenting onslaught of bass. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the album is going to deliver, as the full project drops on October 12. For now, consider yourself warned, and prepare to come face-to-face with “Dr. Death” himself.
Available September 28 via DOOM Music.
