Friendless’ “Got It Going” Is Ready to Fire Up the Club
Sydney powerhouse Friendless is back once again to lay more serious work on Be Rich Records. Titled “Got It Going,” this is a heavy four-on-the-floor thumper that sits just outside the box.
While Friendless’ tracks tend to revolve around the gravities of deep and tech house, this tune sways hard in the direction of low, down club music. The beat slips into a bouncy rhythm driven by a kick/clap combo, instead of the more standard kick/hat formula. A rough-around-the-edges bassline rises and drops into the mix with a funky flow that pairs perfectly with the beat. Meanwhile, tight vocal samples ring out against a synthline that seems a distant cousin to the Dutch-inspired club tracks of the late ‘00s.
All in all, this is one fiery piece of work. The dynamic of “Got It Going” was made to pack a dancefloor. Without needless pomp and blast, Friendless makes simple, smart choices—sound- and style-wise—and uses them to great effect. It’s the kind of track a DJ will drop when they’re really ready to take things to the next level.
