Isenberg Takes an Angular Groove to “The Way”
Notable rising talent Isenberg has already been showcased here this year with both a hot tune—“Spectre,” from Discovery Project Releases—and killer remix that snagged a spot in our Track of the Day series. Now he’s back, not only for another TOTD, but also a tune that’s going out on the next installment of the Litterbox compilation for the insanely active Box of Cats label.
While Isenberg has trod through the likes of jackin’ house and breaks with stellar flair, “The Way” sees him dipping into stripped-down tech house. A raw and robotic kick/hat combo leads the way, soon met by equally machined sounds. Robotic blips and whirs flash in and out of the mix like items in a strange laboratory. Eventually, Isenberg drops in a signature bassline that rolls body-moving warmth through the whole groove. Add in a bit of tongue-in-cheek lean, and you’ve got a track that somehow uses the coldest elements of dance music to shape a bright floor-burner. Isenberg is able to use simple parts to give “The Way” a lot of personality. His career can only go up from here.
Available December 18 via Box of Cats.
