Jaden Thompson and Dub Clap Collab on a Classy Club Banger That Brings the “Freak Groove”
UK producer Jaden Thompson might be a relatively new name to the house music world, though he’s had a particularly impressive start with his 2017 debut “All Day,” heralded by no less than Pete Tong as one of the most featured tracks on his Radio 1 show that year. Thompson shows every sign of keeping that momentum going with his new Alright EP, due on Emerald City at the end of this week, and we’re featuring its “Freak Groove” as our Track of the Day.
“Recently, I’ve been wanting to show a bit more variation throughout my music production, reflecting a range of influences, and not setting myself any barriers,” says Thompson. “As soon as I finished the first four tracks in this new mindset, I sent them to Jamie Jones [of Emerald City], and he signed three of them. As you can imagine, I couldn’t be happier.”
“Freak Groove” sees Thompson swirling his creative juices with Brazilian up-and-comer Dub Clap. Together, they deliver a dub-flavored journey that is the very definition of an excellent DJ tool, holding back on big hooks or melodies in favor of putting thick, sexy rhythmic elements in the spotlight. There’s a rolling bassline, a shimmering of hi-hats, a pulsing club energy, and even a hyped buildup full of vintage drumrolls. It’s a rock-solid production built to slot in at any manner of points during an all-night dancefloor journey.
Available March 15 via Emerald City.
