Lookas May Catch You “Off Guard” With His Latest Unexpected Single
If you’ve been following bass music at all for the past few years, you’ve undoubtedly seen the name Lookas kicking around countless Spotify playlists and DJ festival set lists. The Miami producer has been hitting the road ridiculously hard recently, having previously played at EDC Las Vegas, Beyond Wonderland, and New York’s Webster Hall. He just wrapped up a tour overseas and was so stunned by his time there, he felt compelled to channel his experience into an experimental single with a very fitting title.
“‘Off Guard’ came out of my recent tour in Asia,” he tells Insomniac. “It’s always inspiring spending time there. I wanted to try something a bit different and always wanted to take a stab at creating a psytrance record.”
Sidestepping his usual trap styling, Lookas makes his first foray into the psy sound—and admittedly has done a fantastic job at marrying the genre’s trademark rolling basslines with the heavy bass sound that fans have come to expect from him. It flows effortlessly between Asian-inspired strings and melodies and a thumping low-end that will rattle your chest plate. It’s always refreshing seeing artists work outside of their comfort zone, and Lookas makes it seem like doing so is no sweat at all.
Available June 28 via Loko Records.
