Mason Collective Steps Up With “Try That Pattern” on Stacey Pullen’s Blackflag Imprint
Upcoming Event
Detroit originator Stacey Pullen is one of the long-serving legends in techno. He’s counted among the second wave of Detroit techno, having grown under the mentorship of the genre’s founding fathers: Derrick May, Juan Atkins, and Kevin Saunderson. Pullen has also manned his own Blackflag record label for the past 15 years or so, and we’re featuring a cut from its latest release as our Track of the Day.
Manchester trio Mason Collective is behind the three-track Patti’s Groove EP, which will arrive next week. “Try That Pattern” is sandwiched in the middle of the release, a slick offering filled with bleepy melodies and stripped-back rhythms, situating itself exactly between house and techno. They do a remarkable job of balancing its hypnotic energy with a quirky sense of fun.
Available April 9 via Blackflag.
