Maximono Tosses Out Funk for Your Junk With “A$$ Crack”
The vibes couldn’t be any more on point than they already are for This Ain’t Bristol. Literally everything in the formula-forsaking imprint’s outgoing box is redefining the way heads digest the bassier side of house music—and it’s through their Selections compilation series that the label signals its invaluable curation capabilities.
Cofounder Billy Kenny is the point man for the latest installment, and he goes all the way in with 11 offerings worthy of their own dance music scene. In other words, each is nearly impossible to peg down, but none more than the contribution TAB heads Maximono slot into the space. We’ve been big-upping the diligent duo for a while now (you might recall this catch-up we had when they took the lead on the previous Selections release), and there was no way we could say no to covering “A$$ Crack.” Kenny worked it into the lead spot for a reason, because it fits the mold of being out-there and is not afraid to stick a funky groove where the sun don’t shine.
“We had a laugh when stumbling across this vocal, so we built a funky groove around it,” Maximono tells Insomniac. “We didn’t take it seriously and did it just for fun—a DJ tool to play out, which seemed to work really well in our sets. When Billy asked us for a weird track for his Selections album, we knew it had to be this. It took us hours to find a name for this booty-quaking funk number. Hope you enjoy!”
The first play of “A$$ Crack” has already been prepped for you below; just make sure your backside can handle being bombarded with goofy chants, neon-lit synth slides, and an extra side of strange to throw your junk off slightly.
