MRSA Murks the Dancefloor With VIP of “Bio Weapon”

No stranger to the drum & bass side of the bassbin, the ever-impressive Mat Zo surfaces under his MRSA moniker to flex some tech on Invisible’s Solids_3 EP compilation project. Curated by the legendary Noisia crew, the left-leaning Invisible imprint carves a space for artists to chart a course for the most extreme outer edges of the dancefloor.

The pairing of MRSA and Invisible is an obvious one, as Mat Zo has built his career on his uncanny ability to explore all manner of genres, BPMs, and sonic tidal waves. As such, the VIP turn he gives to his already anthemic “Bio Weapon” unfolds like an alien-triggered fever dream.

Like the very best of MRSA’s tunes, “Bio Weapon” (VIP) feels ready-made for the cinema. Easing into things with a hypnotic, fear-inducing swirl of aural stimulation, it isn’t until the warped percussion begins its seductive grind to the spiraling breakdown that you know you’re in the hands of a master. Once the chest of the beast proper is laid bare, prepare for a synaptic overload as switchback after switchback keep things interesting; then MRSA flips the script and launches into a stuttering breakdown of epic proportions. A short, atmospheric interlude provides a respite from the madness, as the anger builds and the tune begins to wind its way toward release once again. Just when you think you’ve had enough, MRSA doubles down and sucks you back into the fray.
