Murder He Wrote and Tasty Lopez Kick Out Sublime UK Funky Burner “Nasty”
After a busy 2017, UK low-end powerhouse Murder He Wrote is already blazing into 2018 with a new release. Another solid win for Roska Kicks & Snares, his three-track Nasty EP combines the production skills of MHW with the sublime vocals of Tasty Lopez. Together, they’ve hammered out some bona fide floor-burners.
The title track is a perfect marriage of pop overtones with gritty UK funky sounds. Coming in light and breezy, Lopez’s sweet crooning guides the way, smoothly gliding along and locked to a catchy beat. Slowly, the sounds slip away, and a raw and rugged bassline grinds through their wake. From there, the best of both worlds meet, with the kind of big-room hooks that stick in your head, lying over the kind of sneer-inducing rhythms that get the rave moving.
“Nasty” stays around long enough to do its job, but not so long that it repeats past its welcome. Murder He Wrote peppers in just enough dashes from across the genre spectrum to push this past any generic lock-step sounds. And truly, the vocal aid of Tasty Lopez is what really helps take this to the next level. “Nasty” will bring out the kids who still listen to the radio, along with the heads that can name their white label collection by heart. It’s definite peak-hour magic.
Available March 2 via Roska Kicks & Snares.
